Lotta Kühlhorn
Graphic designer
Lotta Kühlhorn Born 1963 in Sweden. Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design Stockholm, 1983-1987.
Lotta Kühlhorn started her professional career while still a student at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, and in the 1990s was one of the first in Sweden to recycle graphic elements from “junk culture”, pop, films and mass-produced items. Lotta Kühlhorn reinterprets design elements taken from sources such as 1970s shelf paper, domestic housecoats, bed linen etc., using them as platforms for the characters on her book-cover designs and illustrations. A method that appropriately captured the mood of the times in the last decade of the 20th century and which she continues to refine though graphic design that achieves a delicate balance between the refined and the trivial. Lotta Kühlhorn’s cover designs have without doubt played a major role in today’s growing demand for paperbacks – reading matter doesn’t always have to be exclusively packaged.
